Aerial view of earthquake destruction in Hatay, 2023
HATAY 2023IDIL'S HOMETOWN

Driven by the destruction and losses from the 2023 Turkey & Syria earthquake we set on a mission to find the bottleneck of the post-earthquake Search and Rescue process. Through intensive research, and interviews with SAR NGOs and technicians deployed on real-world earthquakes, it was clear that technical search devices were a bottleneck in the process. The pain points of current listening devices can be found below.

02|Technology

01
Geophone sensor

We utilise geophones to pick up the microseismic vibrations from the surface of the rubble pile.

02

We apply filters and extract specific features from the data. The windows are fed into our model in real time.

03
Human detection zone

Human presence decision is given with a confidence score on the device real-time (or triggers an action).
